How to Connect Aqara Zigbee/Thread dual-protocol Devices to Samsung SmartThings
Aktie
This third-party platform connection guide uses the Presence Multi-Sensor FP300 as an example. Other Aqara Matter devices can also be connected by following this guide. If you have any questions or encounter any issues that you are unable to resolve during the process, please contact the relevant customer service team for assistance.
1. Matter over Bridge
1.1 Prerequisites
● FP300 is in Zigbee mode
● The user owns an Aqara Matter Hub (recommended: Aqara Hub M3)
● Aqara Home App installed and the user is signed in
● The Aqara Matter Hub's initial setup is completed (powered on, network connected, added to the Aqara App)
1.2 Connect the FP300 to the Aqara Matter Hub via Zigbee
Steps
1. Ensure FP300 is in Zigbee mode
● If currently in Thread, switch to Zigbee mode first.
● After switching, the FP300 will automatically enter Zigbee pairing mode (LED alternates flashing blue and purple).
2. Open the Aqara Home App
● Tap "+" > "Add Device".
● Select the "Sensor" category, find and tap "FP300".
3. Select a Hub

● The app will show "Searching for device..."
● With the FP300 in Zigbee pairing mode, it is usually discovered within seconds.
● If not discovered automatically, long-press the FP300 reset button for 3 seconds to re-enter pairing mode.
5. Complete Zigbee Pairing
● Once discovered, the app will take you through the steps to complete the pairing.
● Name the device and select the room.
● The FP300 is now connected to Aqara Hub M3 via Zigbee.
6. Unlock advanced features
● Open the FP300 device page in the Aqara App to see four sensor cards:
○ Presence / Motion Detection
○ Temperature
○ Humidity
○ Light
● Configurable options include:
○ Detection Mode (PIR priority / Radar priority / Dual-mode linkage)
○ Detection Sensitivity (multi-level adjustable)
○ Detection Range (distance adjustment)
○ Absence Confirmation Period
○ Individual sensor toggles (disable unused sensors to save power)
○ AI Spatial Learning (AI room scanning to reduce false triggers)
○ Sampling and reporting frequency
1.3 Bridge the Aqara Hub to Samsung SmartThings
After the FP300 is connected to an Aqara Matter hub via Zigbee, you can to pair The Hub as a Matter Bridge in each target platform. Once paired, the Hub will automatically expose its Zigbee devices that support Matter Bridging (including the FP300) to that platform.
Prerequisites
● SmartThings App installed
● Aeotec Hub / Samsung smart device (built-in Hub)
● Aqara Matter Hub and FP300 already paired together in Zigbee mode
Pairing Steps
1. Obtain Matter pairing code from the Hub
● Aqara App > Hub Settings > Matter > Generate pairing code.
2. Open SmartThings App
● Tap "+" > "Add device" > "Partner devices" > "Matter".
3. Scan Hub's QR code
● Scan the QR code or enter the pairing code.
4. Wait for connection
● SmartThings will connect to the Hub and assigns security keys.
● The Process takes approximately 30-90 seconds.
5. Name and configure
● Name the Hub, select an icon, and choose the room.
6. View bridged devices
● After Hub pairing succeeds, the FP300 automatically appears in the SmartThings device list.
● Each sensor can be used in SmartThings Automations.
2. Matter Direct Connection (Matter over Thread)
It is recommended to first connect the device to the Aqara Home App via Thread for the initial setup. Then, on the device page in the Aqara Home App, go to “Third-Party Matter Ecosystems” to obtain the Matter pairing code. Use this code to add the device to a third-party Matter platform to have access to all Aqara features.
If the device is added directly to a third-party Matter platform by scanning the Matter code on the device itself, without first configuring it in the Aqara Home App, only basic functions will be available.
2.1 Preparation Steps
● Open the Aqara Home App
● Enter the Device settings page.
● Find the "Matter" option.
● Tap to generate a Matter pairing code.
2.2 Prerequisites
● SmartThings App installed (Android or iOS) and signed in to Samsung account
● A SmartThings Matter Controller in your home:
○ Aeotec Smart Home Hub
○ Samsung Smart TV / Smart Monitor / Refrigerator (select models with built-in SmartThings Hub functionality)
○ Samsung Connect Home / SmartThings Station
● Phone and devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network
2.3 Pairing Steps
1. Open SmartThings App
● Tap the "+" icon in the upper-right corner.
● Select "Add device".
2. Select Matter device
● On the device type screen, select "Partner devices".
● Tap the "Matter" option at the top.
3. Scan pairing code
● Scan the Matter pairing code from Aqara Home App.
● If no QR code is available, tap "Add without QR code" and enter the 11-digit Matter pairing code.
4. Wait for connection
● All operations complete in the background; takes approximately 30-90 seconds.
● If a "something went wrong" error appears, check that the Hub is online and retry.
5. Name and configure
● After a successful connection, name the device.
● Select an icon and the room.
● Save to complete.
6. Verify device
● View the FP300 in the SmartThings App device list.
● Available sensors: occupancy, temperature, humidity, illuminance.
● Can be used in SmartThings Automations and Scenes.
The End
If you do not have an Aqara Hub, you can scan the Matter code on the device itself to add it directly to a third-party Matter hub. However, only basic functions will be available.
